60 years of Formula One
This year, 2007, sees the 60th anniversary of the birth of F1 racing. It was back in 1947 that the World Drivers Championship - along with the set of rules (entitled 'Formula One') that would go on to govern the sport right up until the present day - was formalised; an act that laid the foundation for the very first World Championship race which was held in Silverstone just three years later.

Over the last 60 years, Formula One has become one of the world's leading sporting events, equalled only by the Olympics and the soccer World Cup in terms of audience size, value of sponsorship, cost of hospitality packages and income generation for the hosting nations.

This unique anniversary publication is supported and supervised by the distinguished F1 60 Council who will advise on every aspect of the celebrations. The Council - which includes some of the most well known and respected names in the sport - will be working alongside a team of the world's most accomplished and revered motor sports writers to create a definitive overview of Formula One's first 60 years. The editor is David Tremayne, one of the most highly-regarded writers in the sport.
